When he was five years old, his father, Graziano Rossi, a former motorcycle GP road racer, bought him a kart. Rossi was born in the Italian town of Urbino, Marche, Italy, and his first racing experience was in karting. The charismatic 42-year-old Italian, a nine-time world champion with six of his titles won in MotoGP, one in 500 GP, one in 250 GP, and one in 125 GP. Valentino Rossi announced on Thursday, August 5, 2021, that he would retire at the end of the 2021 MotoGP season. He also owns Sky Racing Team VR46, which competes in Moto2 and previously in Moto3. Rossi is the only rider to have competed in 400 or more Grands Prix in both the 500 cc GP and MotoGP.
He has won nine Grand Prix World Championships, including seven in the current premier class MotoGP and one 500 cc World Championship in the previous premier class. Many consider Valentino to be one of the greatest motorcycle road racers of all time.
